Running the Install Program
If you received a distribution disk, all the files should be on a
single floppy disk (3-1/2 or 5-1/4). If you received a KBBS.ZIP
file, you need to unzip the files first to a floppy disk. It is
important that you have all the files in the same place on a
floppy drive or in a directory of your hard disk drive.
From the DOS Prompt, change to the drive or directory by typing
the DRIVE letter followed by a colon (i.e. "A:" or "B:" or "C:")
and the directory if on drive C, then press enter.
Next type "INSTALL." The install program does several things for
you automatically:
1. Checks for missing or corrupted files. Files that
shouldn't be on this floppy can cause the install
program to fail (minor attempt to eliminate virus
since it checks total size of files).
2. Makes the main directory "C:\KISSBBS" on your hard
drive plus several subdirectories which are needed.
3. Moves all files to the appropiate (sub)directories.
WARNING! Do NOT use XCOPY or COPY command to copy files. If
you attempt to do this, files may not work at all!
After the install program makes the directories and files, it
will automatically start the setup portion allowing you to setup
your KBBS.
To get your SETUP to work you need to know about your modem and
which port it is connected to. Please check your system and
modem manuals if you do not know. This information is needed:
1. The COM PORT Number (i.e., 1, 2, 3, 4)
2. The FASTEST baud rate or speed of your modem. Might
be 1200, 2400, 9600, 14,400 or speeds in between.
